USW offers specialist programmes such as Football Coaching and Performance where students can gain FAW/UEFA licences as part of their degree. They also deliver degrees in Sport & Exercise Science and Sport & Exercise Therapy, integrating physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and strength & conditioning.

Work Placements, Industry Links & Accreditations

USW sports courses are designed in collaboration with professional clubs and national bodies (e.g. Welsh clubs, FAW) to ensure relevance and placement opportunities. Students benefit from work placements in clubs, community sport settings, performance support roles, and sometimes even overseas opportunities. Some courses even embed vocational accreditations; for instance, the Sport & Exercise Science degree includes CIMSPA fitness qualifications.

Facilities & Research Strength

USW’s Sport Park and Glyntaff campuses provide high-spec facilities: indoor 3G pitches, strength & conditioning suites, biomechanics and performance labs. Their staff conduct internationally recognised research in sport, exercise, health, and performance, which feeds directly into student learning and project work. Postgraduate programmes such as their Sports & Exercise Medicine Diploma are designed for working professionals, delivered partly online to combine flexibility and real-world application.
